Is your stone veneer and brick veneer real or manufactured (man-made)?

Our stone veneer is man-made of Portland cement. Mountain View Stone strictly monitors every step of the production process for quality control. Made with Color Lock Technology, the face color has bonding agents in it to help protect against fading from harsh environmental conditions, cleaners, and even pressure washing (see our installation and maintenance documents for more information, available on our post purchase support page). Each panel measures 4” high but will vary in length (5.5”, 8.25”, 11”, 16.5”) and thickness (1.5”-2.5”). Each ready stack panel has multiple stones on each panel face. To achieve the desired finish as shown in our images it is up to the installer to arrange the panels in the correct pattern and install each panel one at a time. How do I know how much stone veneer to order?

The easiest way to determine the square footage of stone veneer flats you will need is to measure the length and to measure the height of the area you will be installing our stone veneer on and multiply them together to get the total square footage of stone veneer flats needed for your project. Corners are not required but they offer a professional finish by wrapping perfectly around a 90 degree outside corner. If you decide to use corners you will need to calculate the lineal feet required by simply measuring the height of all outside corners as our corners are sold by the lineal foot. Outside corners are different from inside corners. For inside corners, our flats are used. Simply run a flat piece into the corner and then a flat piece on the adjacent side. Please feel free to email us the dimensions of your project at info@mountainviewstone.net and we can help you estimate the number of corners and flats you will need to complete your project. You can also read our blog post about how much stone veneer do I need to order? and our blog post about measure twice, order once!

What is the warranty on your stone veneer and brick veneer?

Warranty is for a period of 50 years covering manufacturing defects as long as it is used on structures conforming to local building codes and installed according to the manufacturer’s written instructions. Damages resulting from wall movement, settlement of the structure, staining, oxidation, paint or contact with chemicals will not be covered under this warranty. Warranty coverage is limited to replacement of defective materials only; labor cost will not be covered. Manufacturer’s warranty must be validated with original paperwork. For full warranty details or to download a PDF copy please see our post purchase support page. You can also read our blog post about how long does manufactured stone veneer last and our blog post about is manufactured stone veneer durable?

Is stone veneer waterproof?

Since stone veneer is not inherently waterproof, proper installation techniques are crucial to preventing moisture-related issues such as mold, efflorescence, and structural damage. Install a high-quality water-resistive barrier (WRB) behind the stone veneer to prevent moisture from reaching the underlying structure. This acts as the first line of defense against water infiltration. Proper flashing should be installed around windows, doors, and other vulnerable areas to direct water away from the wall system and prevent pooling behind the veneer. A drainage plane or weep screed should be incorporated to allow water that penetrates behind the stone to escape rather than become trapped, which could lead to deterioration. For installations lacking proper drainage systems, warranty claims will be denied. You can also read our blog post about is stone veneer waterproof? and our blog post about can stone veneer be exposed to water?

Is stone veneer fireproof?

Our stone veneer has not been tested for fire rating, however, due to its composition, our stone veneer is classified as a non-combustible material, meaning it will not catch fire or contribute to flame spread. However, while the stone veneer itself is non-combustible, the substrate and adhesives used during installation may be affected by heat exposure. Fire codes, local building codes, and manufacturer recommendations specify safe clearances from heat sources. For example: wood-burning stoves typically require a minimum clearance of 12-36 inches from combustible materials. Fireplaces and BBQs should have a protective barrier or non-combustible backing to prevent heat transfer. Always check fire codes, local building codes and the manufacturer’s guidelines to determine the correct clearance for your project. Our stone veneer should never come in direct contact with flames such as (but not limited to) inside a firebox. For installations near heat sources where fire codes, local building codes, and minimum clearances from heat sources have not been followed, warranty claims will be denied. For installations where stone veneer comes in direct contact with flames or direct contact with a heat source, warranty claims will be denied. You can also read our blog post about is stone veneer fire resistant? and our blog post about stone veneer near heat sources?

How do I install Mountain View Stone brick veneer and stone veneer?

Glad you asked, and it is a bit of a lengthy answer. Mountain View Stone brick veneer and stone veneer are designed for a range of skill levels from the do-it-yourself enthusiast to the professional contractor. For full installation instructions or to download a PDF copy please see our post purchase support page. You can also read our blog post about choosing a skilled mason for your project and our blog post about is stone veneer hard to install?

What type of adhesive should I use?

Our stone veneer must only be installed using Type S mortar to ensure proper adhesion, durability, and long-term performance. Type S mortar is the best choice due to its superior strength, moisture resistance, and long-term durability. While adhesives may work in select applications, they do not offer the same level of security, especially for exterior or high-heat areas. If you want a long-lasting, structurally sound stone veneer installation, stick with Type S mortar for the best results. For installations where Type S mortar has not been used, warranty claims will be denied. You can also read our blog post about best adhesive for installing stone veneer and our blog post about how to choose a stone veneer installer.

Where can I install your stone veneer?

Our stone veneer is suitable for interior and exterior installations, including (but not limited to): kitchens, bathrooms, accent walls, fireplaces, BBQs, wood burning stoves, chimneys, etc. Our stone veneer is suitable for columns, posts, retaining walls, foundations, and underpinning, however, for aesthetic purposes only. Our stone veneer is not to be used as/for structural support. For installations where our stone veneer has been installed as/for structural support, warranty claims will be denied. You can also read our blog post about transform your home's interior with stone veneer and our blog post about transform your home’s exterior with stone veneer.

Can I use your stone veneer as flooring?

While stone veneer excels in wall applications, it is not suitable for flooring due to its lack of durability, uneven texture, and susceptibility to cracking under foot traffic. For a stone-like floor, it’s best to opt for natural stone, porcelain tile, or other materials specifically designed for flooring use. For installations where our stone veneer has been installed as flooring, warranty claims will be denied. You can also read our blog post about can you use stone veneer as flooring?

Can I blend different stone veneer profiles together?

Multiple stone veneer styles can be blended to create a custom appearance. Varying the percentage of each profile creates drastically different looks, which enables further refinement of the style you are trying to achieve. Typically blends of smaller and larger stone profiles are 80% smaller profile (ledge stone or stack stone) and 20% larger profile (field stone, lime stone or hackett stone). It is also possible to blend two of the smaller profiles (stack stone and ledge stone) but we recommend a 50% stack stone and 50% ledge stone blend when combining these two profiles compared to the 80/20 blend. These percentages are 100% customizable. Multiple colors can also be combined together in varying percentages to achieve the custom appearance you desire. Please see our stone blends page for more information.

How do I clean Mountain View Stone brick veneer and stone veneer?

Use a non-etching concrete cleaner to remove clay, dirt, mortar residue, or other stains on stone. A pressure washer may be used to clean stone as long as it does not exceed 3000 psi, a yellow tip (wide fan) is used, and a minimum distance of 18” is kept back from the stone. We recommend that after stone and mortar is fully cured, has been cleaned and is dry, apply our water-based concrete sealer to help repel the elements and keep stone clean. NEVER USE A WIRE BRUSH OR ACID TO CLEAN STONE. For full care and maintenance details or to download a PDF copy please see our post purchase support page. You can also read our blog post about stone veneer care and maintenance and our blog post about how to seal and protect stone veneer.

Does your stone veneer need to be sealed?

A concrete sealer is not required, however, sealing with a concrete sealer will add protection especially over the mortar joints. Please keep in mind that different concrete sealers will affect the appearance of the stone veneer. A matte (or flat) finish will have little to know impact to the finished look of the stone veneer whereas a gloss finish will darken the stone veneer and have a wet look. We recommend testing your concrete sealer on a piece of stone veneer that has not been installed to ensure you are happy with the finished appearance after applying concrete sealer. We highly recommend sealing your stone veneer if you are installing it in a kitchen, bathroom, or outdoors. For installations in kitchens, bathrooms, or outdoors where the installation has not been sealed, warranty claims will be denied. You can also read our blog post about does interior stone veneer need to be sealed? and our blog post about does exterior stone veneer need to be sealed?

Fulfillment mistakes that we make resulting in the shipment of incorrect product to you will also be accepted for return 30 days from the date of purchase. Mountain View Stone

Do you have any larger pictures or projects of the field stone ash or limestone desert sand. I am trying to reside which would be better for my kitchen backsplash. I guess I should ask if they are even recommended for backsplash? Are they to thick?

Hi Joyce,

Thank you for your question and interest in our stone veneer.

On each product page there are options for both flats and corners (to the right of the main product image).

Important to note we always recommend adding 10% of what you think you will need as a waste factor.

Please let us know if you have any more questions!
